Melatonin

Darkness triggers the release of Melatonin from a small gland in the brain, which helps us sleep. Melatonin can also be found in some foods like Cherries, Grapes, and Olives.

The blue light (screen time), that majority of us absorb, reduces Melatonin production. Exposure to blue light before sleeping can reduce quality of sleep or even cause insomnia.

Not only does Melatonin help with sleep, but it also can improve other medical conditions such as:

Mood disorder

Anxiety

Neurodegenerative diseases

Parkinson’s disease

Alzheimer’s disease

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)

Autistic spectrum disorder

Multiple sclerosis

Different types of headache

Some types of cancer, immune deficiencies.

Fertility

Gut health

Pain

Fatty liver

and much more.

Melatonin works through reducing inflammation, anxiety, decreasing pain and regulating some hormones as well as its antioxidant effect.

If you consider taking any supplements please consult your naturopathic doctor to get the right advice.
